"Love the little trade which thou hast learned, and be content therewith." Marcus Aurelius

I first saw the words by Marcus Aurelius carved into the door of one of Western North Carolina's fine art galleries, The Gallery of the Mountains at Asheville's historic Grove Park Inn. This "little trade" of working wood has a rich and valued tradition that has been passed down through the generations and I am honored to be a small part of that tradition.

I began my woodworking journey over 30 years ago with a table saw perched on a picnic table. Now that I have retired after thirty five years in another profession, I have launched Downing Fine Woodworking, Inc, fulfilling a life long dream and ambition.

What you expect from me and my straightforward guarantee to you:

  • If there are any defects in my work that you are displeased with, I'll fix it.
  • If the problem is a result of defects in materials or craftsmanship I will repair it at my expense.
  • Repairs resulting from accidents or misuse will be charged at my current hourly rate. Return shipping expenses are your responsibility. If local repair is more economical, I will coordinate with your local shop to facilitate it.

Words from a fellow woodworker reflect my own sentiments:

"This guarantee is effective for my lifetime. After that - I'll do what I can."
